Enrichment Programs
Sunny Hill offers many varied enrichment programs in addition to excellent classroom experiences. Children sing with our music teacher Hugh Hanley, dance with our creative movement teacher Katie Clark, and explore the world with special visitors throughout the year. Special programs each year include the New England Aquarium Tidepool Program, Drumlin Farm’s Audubon Ark, the Rainforest Reptiles, and other programs. |
Music with Hugh Hanley |
|
Hugh Hanley teaches Circle of Songs (www.hughhanley.com) music classes once per month for each preschool class at Sunny Hill. It is the goal of our music program to provide children with proper modeling and early exposure to an active, participatory musical experience can help children establish a foundation of expressive, receptive and creative music skills that a child can build upon throughout life. The development of these music skills also assists and enhances the child's cognitive, social, and emotional development. The program incorporates a wide and varied repertoire of songs, fingerplays, and music activities that are appropriate, accessible, and highly engaging. Hugh has learned all of the material he uses in his work from folk traditions, children, and their teachers and parents. |
Creative Movement with Katie |
Katie Clark teaches Happily Ever Active (www.happilyeveractive.com) creative movement classes twice per month for each three and four year-old preschool class at Sunny Hill. Happily Ever Active is a creative fitness class that integrates literacy and physical fitness. Each class begins with a story dramatization followed by two or three games which relate to the story. It is the goal of our creative movement program not only to instill a love for physical activity, but also to promote literacy and a love for reading. All of the games we play capitalize on and introduce children to cooperative, organized games at the same time they are reinforcing the concepts and events that took place in the story. Happily Ever Active classes promote literacy skills while improving endurance, strength, flexibility, and coordination, promotes pleasure of reading and instills the long-term joy of a healthy, active lifestyle. |
